Vilamoura, Portugal – Lively opening ceremonies and a parade kicked off the 2022 ILCA 4 Youth World Championships in Vilamoura, after two days of equipment inspection and registration. 272 boys and 154 girls from 43 countries will be competing at the event this week. Today a practice race was held in 15–17 knots under sunny skies, for a chance for sailors to test out the waters. With almost 130 coach boats, coaches and parents are very eager and excited about the event taking place in Vilamoura during the summer.
Vilamoura Sailing Centre is based in the Marina de Vilamoura, on the southern coast of Portugal. It has outstanding facilities and unique sailing conditions that suit all sailing classes and has developed into one of the largest leisure and sports resorts in Europe. The 2022 ILCA U21 World Championships will be held in the same facilities following the ILCA 4 Youth Worlds.
Two races are scheduled for the first day of racing, August 15, with a first warning signal at 14:00.
