The strong tidal current and light and shifty breeze proved the challenges on the first day - a sunny one at that- of the 2010 Laser World Championships off Hayling Island GBR. The shifting wind, oscillating through as much as 30 degrees at times in the first race set the early test, but a big 50-degree swing early in of the second contest forced the delay of the second and third starts until the breeze settled. Michael Bullot NZL (3), runner up at last yearÂ’s World Championships posting a second and a first to grab the early lead in the senior division, one point over Paul Goodison GBR (4), the defending champ, who opened his regatta with third place and then won his second heat by a comfortable distance. Somewhat surprising third place which is currently held by Karl-Martin Rammo EST (4). Tom Slingsby AUS (9), fresh from winning the Etchells Worlds with John Bertrand in Ireland, jumped right in and won his first group race and took eighth in the second to stand in seventh overall. In the juniors, the top three are Francesco Marrai ITA (5), Lukas Feuerherdt GER (6) and Thorbjoern Schierup DEN (6). The full report and the video of the day.
