Laser -World Championship 2010 - Hayling Island GBR - Day 3 - Slingsby AUS on top

When there’s wind it’s Slingsby time. The easterlies got into the low to mid-teens, which made for more physical sailing yesterday at the Laser Worlds in Hayling Island GBR. In these conditions Tom Slingsby AUS moved to the top of the overall standings in the senior division, with a score line that shows three bullets in six starts. Sailing extremely smooth and fluid downwind portions, Slingsby served notice that he intends to add world title No. 3 to his trophy case. But then there’s also Paul Goodison GBR, the reigning Olympic and World Champion, who will have a say in this matter. Goody might be in 3rd overall, but is tied on points with Josh Junior NZL who holds 2nd at the moment as one of four Kiwis in the top eight. Unlike most others, Goodison has yet to sail a stinker, although he had to work hard to avoid his first double-digit score yesterday after getting buried deep in the second race. He put on a clinic to salvage a 7th, keeping his title defense on target with all Top-10 finishes.
In the Junior World Championships Francesco Marrai ITA regained his overall lead after a 5th and a 3rd, two points ahead of Thorbjoern Scheirup DEN and five clear of Keerati Bualong THA. The report and the video summary.
