19 August 1998

With a constant force four Beaufort wind, the 117 Laser-sailors out of 14 nations had today ideal conditions for both their races.
Andreas John of Hamburg, Germany won two races today and has taken second place, displacing Bavarian Willi Gerlinger, who has fallen to third. Still in the lead is Thomas Janke with 15 points. He finished sixth and second today and could discard his 8th of the third race.
In the class classifications, Janka and John are on top of the Apprentices, the youngest sailors between 35 and 44 years old. There is an interesting fight for third place among the British sailors. Alan Davis after six races has 30.00 points, Terry Scutcher 31.00 and Harry Joyce 32.00 points.
For the Masters, the next decade up to an age of 54, Rustan Carlstrom from Sweden is two points in front of the German, Dittmer Behrmann. Willi Gerlinger looks a sure winner of the title in his class of the Grand Masters. After deleting his worst 3rd place, he has only 7.00 points, the second place sailor Johan Stain from Netherlands has 25.00.
In the group of the Great Grand Masters, (those over 65 years old), Kurt Zuger from Switzerland is the best with 6.00 points and he is followed by Otmar Pozniak from Great Britain, who with 10.00 points is still in with a chance to win.
