2022 ILCA U21 World Championships

Vilamoura, Portugal  The 2022 ILCA U21 World Championships have kicked off in Vilamoura, right on the heels of the 2022 ILCA 4 Youth World Championships, which took place last week. Equipment inspection and registration were completed today, a practice race was held in extremely light wind (3–5 knots), and celebratory opening ceremonies formally launched the event this evening. 158 men and 80 girls from 45 countries will be competing at the event this week, making 238 sailors in total. The men will be divided into two fleets and the women will race in just one fleet. Two races are scheduled for the first day of racing, August 23, with a first warning signal at 12:00.

Vilamoura Sailing Centre is based in the Marina de Vilamoura, on the southern coast of Portugal. It has outstanding facilities and unique sailing conditions that suit all sailing classes and has developed into one of the largest leisure and sports resorts in Europe.
