The Pan American Games is a continental multi-sport event in the Americas featuring summer sports and is the oldest continental games in the world. Competition is held among athletes from nations of the Americas every four years in the summer before each Summer Olympic Games. The 2023 Pan American Games is being held in Santiago, Chile, making Chile a first-time host of the event.
These Games provide the second opportunity (following the 2023 Sailing World Championships in The Netherlands) for sailors to qualify for berths at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It is a continental qualifier that will award Olympic qualification to the two highest finishing and not previously qualified countries in both North and South Americas for both the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 classes, totaling eight countries.
Sailing competition will take place in Algarrobo, Chile, just over an hour’s drive west of Santiago from October 28 through November 5, 2023.
