Sailing at the 2023 Pan American Games in Algarrobo, Chile came to a close on November 4, 2023. In the ILCA 7 fleet, Peruvian Stefano Peschiera secured gold ahead of host country’s Clemente Seguel who won silver and bronze medalist Juan Maegli of Guatemala. Peschiera had already qualified Peru for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games at the 2023 Sailing World Championships in The Hague, so both Seguel and Maegli awarded Olympic qualifications to Chile and Guatemala by winning their medals. The two highest ranking North American countries that had not previously qualified for the Olympics in August were Puerto Rico and Aruba, so they were both awarded the North American continental berths for Paris.
In the ILCA 6 fleet, American Erika Reineke swept gold while Canadian’s Sarah Douglas went home with silver and Argentina’s Luciana Cordozo won bronze. At the 2023 Sailing World Championships in The Hague, all three of the medalists’ countries qualified berths for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Therefore, the countries that secured Olympic qualification were Uruguay and Peru for the continent of South America and Mexico and Bermuda for the continent of North America.
